Fiji Lonely Planet Guide

Im going to travel from 10.5 months, Lonely Planet advice please!?
Im in Thailand, Indonesia, Oz, Fiji, New Zealand and South America. I do not want to be carrying around a stack of lonely planet books, because they take up space in my bag backpacks and cost a bomb! I bought a actuallly Thailand yesterday, a great eBay and was much cheaper. Im wondering whether it is better to buy books when you're there? Is it to find guides in English for these countries easier to do when you do not? And maybe even cheaper? Maybe you can simply buy fellow travelers you meet?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated …. thanks in advance!
Only buy when you are there because there will be some good travel books, Lonely Planet is probably best to go now. Watch around everywhere before to make good friends for a reason eBay price is good, but friends may have a reach of everyone. Anyway a good time, it seems what fun and interesting.
